Car Accident Chiropractic Care

Being in an accident, whether minor or major, can have a profound impact on your body, often leading to injuries that are not immediately apparent. As an expert and experienced chiropractor team, Life Force Chiropractic in Vancouver, WA, we’re here to shed light on the crucial role chiropractic care can play in your recovery process after an accident.

Let’s explore how chiropractic treatments can address the injuries sustained, the importance of seeking chiropractic care post-accident, the typical recovery timeline for common injuries like whiplash, the overarching benefits of chiropractic care, and finally, navigating the intricacies of insurance when involving chiropractic treatment post-accident.

What Happens to Your Body When You’ve Been in an Accident?

When you’re involved in an accident, your body absorbs the force of the collision, which can lead to a range of injuries. Common injuries include whiplash, sprains, strains, herniated discs, and misalignments in the spine. These injuries might result in symptoms like pain, stiffness, reduced range of motion, headaches, and dizziness. The impact can also cause your musculoskeletal system to become misaligned, leading to chronic pain and discomfort if left untreated.

Why You Should See a Chiropractor After a Car Accident

Seeking chiropractic care after an accident is pivotal for a few reasons. Firstly, chiropractors specialize in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal injuries, offering non-invasive solutions that target the root cause of your pain and discomfort. Early intervention can prevent chronic conditions from developing and help ensure a faster and more comprehensive recovery. Chiropractic adjustments can restore mobility, alleviate pain, and improve your body’s natural healing processes by ensuring your nervous system functions optimally.

How Long Does It Take a Chiropractor to Fix Whiplash?

The recovery time for whiplash varies depending on the severity of the injury, your overall health, and how quickly you seek treatment after the accident. Generally, patients may start to see improvements within a few weeks of consistent chiropractic care, but complete recovery could take a few months. Regular sessions allow the chiropractor to adjust treatment based on your progress, ensuring the best possible outcome.

The Benefits of Chiropractic Care After a Car Accident

Chiropractic care offers a multitude of benefits for those recovering from car accidents. Not only does it provide a non-invasive and drug-free approach to pain management, but it also addresses the underlying injuries that cause pain. Benefits include:

  • Pain relief: Through adjustments, chiropractic care helps reduce pain and inflammation.
  • Restoration of mobility: Chiropractic treatments can help restore mobility lost due to the accident by realigning the spine and joints.
  • Reduced scar tissue: Chiropractors can target tissues that might form scars, helping them heal more naturally and reducing long-term stiffness.
  • Prevention of chronic conditions: By addressing injuries early, chiropractic care helps prevent them from becoming chronic issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will I be adjusted on my first visit?

No, it is extremely important to complete a full health consultation, spinal assessment, and any needed diagnostic x-rays prior to any adjustments in our office. This allows our doctors a chance to best understand your current health status and health goals to ensure they can help you before they begin delivering chiropractic adjustments. The consultation, assessments, and any needed x-rays are the pieces of information our doctors need to determine the timeline and frequency of care they would recommend for you if they determine our office can best help you.

  • How long until I feel better?

This is a loaded question with many variables, as every patient is different depending on factors such as: age, previous health history, past traumas, current health concerns, health goals, lifestyle choices, amount of stress you experience, willingness to commit to your appointments, willingness to complete given stretches/exercises at home, etc. In all individuals, healing takes time and repetition but how much time and repetition depends on the factors listed above. Our first two visits with a patient allow our team to collect the necessary information to provide the most accurate timeline possible for optimal healing based on that individual person and their needs.

  • How often will I need to come in for visits?

Visit frequency and timeline for corrective or wellness care are determined based on a detailed health history consultation to establish the patient’s current needs and future health/lifestyle goals. We have seen patients as frequently as 3x/week and as seldom as every other week, depending on the consultation, assessments, and x-ray findings. The first two visits in our office allow our team and doctors to collect the necessary information to provide the most accurate care plan for your specific needs and desires for care.

  • How much will my visits cost?

There are different service fees for different phases of care whether a patient is in corrective care or wellness care. Corrective care is a higher cost in the beginning, as more services are often needed to create desired results and optimal healing based on the initial health consultation, assessments, and x-rays. Wellness care is less costly, as these patients are choosing a lifestyle difference by receiving chiropractic care for overall well-being and prevention. Wellness care cannot be received until corrective care is complete, as corrective care is when patients are typically symptomatic and many have never seen a chiropractor before. The initial visit in our office allows our team to collect the necessary information to determine if and how we can best help your current health needs and desires, as well as identify if the patient needs corrective care or wellness care. The initial visit in our office is $97 which includes the report of findings at the second visit from what the doctors found from the initial visit and your specific care plan needs in our office (corrective or wellness, number of adjustments, frequency of care, needed at home instructions, progress re-exams, etc.). Adjustment costs will vary depending on the amount of time the doctor will need to spend with the patient to make the needed adjustments and largely depending on the patient’s phase of care (corrective care is more costly than wellness care because more is needed from the doctor to make the desired health changes with the patient). Progress exams and x-rays are services our patients receive throughout the course of their care (corrective or wellness) to ensure they are continuing to heal and adapt at the highest levels with the best frequency and at-home recommendations.

  • Does your office accept my insurance?

Our office accepts most major insurances including (Medicare Part B, BlueCross BlueShield, Providence, Aetna, United Healthcare, Cigna, Insurances in the First Choice and American Specialty Health Networks, and a long list of others that typically fall under the supervision of one of the insurances listed above). There are a few insurance companies that we know we are not contracted with including: Humana, Apple Health, and Kaiser (unless it is supervised by First Choice Health). Insurance companies all have specific plans and policies, chosen by the patient, therefore every individual is different when it comes to their personal costs, responsibilities and covered services within our office. Insurance can be helpful to decrease overall costs, but does not cover 100% of care. Therefore, we provide a complimentary benefits check of each patient’s insurance after we have completed the initial appointment in our office (detailed health consultation, spinal assessment, and any needed diagnostic x-rays) in order to provide all needed information to the insurance company for the most accurate benefit details and coverage specifically within our office. This allows us to provide all financial information, including services covered by insurances during our second visit when we present the patient with our doctor’s findings and recommendations for care in our office.

  • Does your office take x-rays?

Depending on the patient’s health consultation, age of the patient, and specific case, our doctors will determine the specific x-rays needed to make the best recommendations for the person’s needs. X-Rays allow our doctors to see the overall curvature or loss of, if there is any degeneration present or loss of disc spaces between the spinal vertebrae. If x-rays are determined necessary, our doctors take a special series called the 4-View Motion Study to help identify the exact number of subluxations and lack of spinal motion that creates many health concerns.

  • How long do appointments take?

The first two visits last 30-45 minutes in total. Then, most appointments last 15 minutes, as the adjustment itself only requires 3-4 minutes of time to find and correct the vertebral subluxation that creates nervous system dysfunction within the patient’s body.

  • Does your office see kids?

Yes, our doctors are a part of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and love making sure the little ones get the care they need.

  • Does your office see pregnant women?

Yes, prenatal care is an important part of an expecting mother’s healthcare. Our doctors are trained in the Webster’s Technique that specifically focuses on helping realign a mother’s pelvis and releasing tension on the round ligament that holds the baby in the uterus. Chiropractic care can be a safe and effective way for an expecting mother to decrease pain and discomfort.

  • Do I see the same doctor every visit?

Our doctors work alongside one another to serve all of our patient clientele. From reviewing healthy history and health goals to reading diagnostic x-rays, our doctors work together to determine if they can help you reach your desired health goals.

  • Do you accept auto accident patients?

Yes, we have worked with numerous patients following their car accidents. There are a few details that the patient must provide in order for our office to properly serve an auto accident patient to ensure the auto insurance company covers the care the patient needs. The information the patient must provide includes: the date and details of the auto accident, the auto insurance company responsible for payment of services, the claim number of the case, and the medical adjuster’s name and telephone number who is handling the bodily injuries sustained from the accident.
